These five night markets in Bali are great places to go for local culture, shopping, and food near the main highlights of Bali. They are in and near Ubud — the "culture capital" in central Bali, in Kuta and Seminyak along the beach area of the capital of Bali, and near the Tegallalang Terraced Fields. Go there for street food, some cultural browsing, and shopping for souvenirs, gifts, and other buys. We hope you have fun in them.
Though these are called night markets, they are open during the day too. These are places locals go during the day and evening for food and other things.
1. Ubud Night Market
Highlights: Centrally-located street market in Ubud near Campuhan Ridge Walk and a kilometer from the Monkey Forest
Recommended for: a place to get snacks and a centrally-located place for souvenirs and gifts
Location: 39 Jalan Raya Tebongkang
Open: 4 pm – 11 pm every day
Ubud night market is a few minutes' walk from the Campuhan Ridge Walk. You can find coconut bowls to take back as souvenirs. Silk scarves, crafts, and art are the special local products. It is a kilometer away from the famous Monkey Forest.
Transport: You can get to Ubud Night Market by taxi from Denpasar Airport in about 40 or 50 minutes, costing about 28 USD.
2. Kuta Art Market

Highlights: For gifts and things for your trip as well as crafts and food
Recommended for: people in Kuta
Location: Jl Kuta Art Market Street, Kuta Badung Regency, close to Kuta Beach
Open: 4 pm – 10 pm
Kuta Art Market is basically right next to the Kuta beach, so it is convenient for beach-goers. Kuta Beach is one of the best beaches in Bali. It is in a central location for tourists since it is only 4 kilometers (2½ miles) from Denpasar Airport, so getting there is easy. Denpasar Airport is the main airport in Bali. The 5-star Sheraton Hotel and other hotels are located along the beach.
Kuta Art Market is a small beach bazaar with food, Bali souvenirs and handicraft items. It is adjacent to the Kuta Sidewalk. There are many stalls with everything from beach sandals to snacks.
Transport: You can get to Kuta Art Market by taxi from Denpasar Airport. A taxi ride takes about 10 minutes (about 9 USD).
3. The Taman Sari Market

Highlights: Shopping for gifts, food, and things for your trip as well as crafts and food
Recommended for: people in Seminyak
Location: No. 1 Jalan Gunung Tangkuban Perahu, Kerobokan Kelod, Badung Regency, close to Seminyak Beach.
Open: morning – 10pm
Seminyak Beach is another of the best beaches in Bali. This is a great street market to go to when you are in the area because tourists and locals shop there daily. There are low prices. Seminyak Beach is about 3 kilometers (2 miles) northwards from Kuta. The waves are bigger than at Kuta, so surfers go there.
The street market is called Pasar Taman Sari. It is a place both locals and tourists go for fresh tropical fruits at bargain prices, fresh and cooked fish, and local foods and meals. It is within an easy walk of beach villas and resorts. At sunset, people bring in food carts of all sorts.
4. Gianyar Night Market
Highlights: Street food in Gianyar is the main highlight plus clothes and electronics
Recommended for: Balinese street food specialties and also international dishes, plus fresh fruit, Indonesian bread and pastries, and fruit dishes
Open: 8am – 10pm
This famous street market is about 11 kilometers (7 miles) from Ubud. You can find a variety of cuisine such as Balinese, Indonesian, and Korean. You can find some clothing and electronics too. Prices are low. You can have a whole meal including ice tea for 35,000 IDR or about 2.50 USD.
The Gianyar Night Market is one of the main places for hungry locals and international visitors in the Ubud area. The market is located on Gianyar town's Jalan Ngurah Rai. Most foreign travelers call it a hidden gem. The area is bustling with local restaurants called warungs and small stalls that sell everything from pets, to fruit of all kinds, to all kinds of street foods.
Here are two specialties to try:
- Babi Guling – a traditional Balinese pork dish
- Martabak Manis – These are basically pancakes filled with things such as chocolate, durian, pineapple… there is a big variety of kinds of pancakes and toppings.
5. Tegallalang Handicraft Center
Highlights: Tegallalang Handicraft Center is next to one of the best of the terraced field areas of Bali.
Recommended for: buying souvenirs and especially handicrafts and artwork or a place to go for refreshments and food near the Tegallalang Terraced Fields
Location: Jalan Raya Tegallalang, Tegallalang, Gianyar, Bali
Hours: 2pm – around midnight every day
This is perhaps the best place to go in the Ubud area if you are interested in buying arts and crafts pieces. It is near the Tegallalang Rice Terraces, and is popular due to its accessibility near Ubud. Tegallalang is Bali's second most popular rice fields area, and it's surrounded by attractions in the Ubud area such as the Tibumana Waterfall. It is also probably the second most beautiful.
It's a short drive north from the main town of Ubud. The handicraft market is known for the local cottage industries that manufacture and export of sculptures and furniture items. There is a lot of art for sale.
