The Best Places to Visit in Singapore in February
Singapore is hot due to its proximity to the equator, and February is no different. Temperatures in Singapore don't vary much throughout the year, but, though there are still moderate amounts, February sees less rainfall than any other month, making it a good time of year to visit.
1. Take in the Lights at the Lantern Festival in Chinatown
The Lantern Festival marks the end of the Lunar New Year, and is also locally known as Shangyuan Festival or Cap Go Meh. In 2025, it falls on February 12, and in 2026 on March 3.
This is a great time to visit Chinatown, where kids are walking around with paper lanterns that are lit up with candles. There are lots of different types of lanterns, ranging from more traditional ones to modern ones that are shaped like animals or toys.
There are also performances on this day, and the sky is adorned with lanterns being let go into the night.
We recommend starting your afternoon in Chinatown to visit the shops and the sights around there, including the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and the Sri Mariamman Temple, and staying into the evening to see the lanterns. Chinatown Street Market is a great location for shopping too if you want to get some souvenirs to take home.
2. Engage with Singapore's History at the National Museum of Singapore
The National Museum of Singapore is fun for all ages, with special activities for kids, but plenty of interesting things to see and learn for adults, too. The museum is located in a 19th-century colonial building, worth a visit in itself, but the inside uses modern technology to display the information.
You can get a guided tour of the museum, or wander around by yourself. There is a beautiful history gallery that will give you all the insight into Singapore's past, and a focus on its natural landscape, too. Other rooms show Singaporean art and culture, and touch on the national identity.
If you are interested in more museums during your time in Singapore, we also recommend visiting the Peranakan Museum, which we wrote more about in our article about visiting Singapore in January.
3. Visit Little India for Thaipusam
Due to Singapore's diverse ethnic make-up, there are a variety of festivals celebrated by different religions and ethnicities. One of the ones that makes February a great time of the year to visit is Thaipusam, a Tamil festival.
"Thai" is a month in the Tamil Calendar, and "Pusam" is the name of stars in the Cancer constellation. During this month, the star is at the highest point in the sky, which is when Thaipusam is celebrated. During this festival, devotees walk from Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple to Sri Thendayuthapani Temple.
However, that isn't all, as devotees generally display their faith by piercing their bodies with hooks and skewers, which is something that is truly unforgettable. Devotees are brought into a trance by chanting, and you can watch the piercing taking place at the temples. While it can be a little scary for very young children, there is no blood to be seen.
In 2025, Thaipusam is celebrated on February 11, and in 2026 on February 1. The date does change every year due to its relation to the position of the star.
Little India is also a great area to walk around in before and after, with lots of fun shops and great restaurants to try out.
4. Eat Your Way through Maxwell Food Center
Food is a big part of life in Singapore, and is the perfect way to discover the intersections between the different ethnicities living together in Singapore. Many local Singaporeans eat at open-air food courts, known as hawker centers, where you buy individual dishes from the stalls and eat them at the tables found in the middle. This way you know that each vendor you buy from specializes in the dish that you're buying from them.
Maxwell Food Center is one of these hawker centers and has been around since the 1950s. It is one of the best in Singapore, and has kept its historic charm regardless of renovations.
Here we recommend trying some of Singapore's popular dishes, including chicken rice, sweet coconut-ty kaya toast, nyonya seafood laksa, pork ribs, or chicken satay. There is really something for everybody, and you could eat at a hawker center every day during your time in Singapore, and not get bored or run out of new dishes to sample.

Low Season: Less Expensive and Fewer Crowds
While February is not the busiest time of the year for tourists in Singapore, we still recommend booking ahead because Singapore is popular to visit all year. In February, you might see slightly fewer crowds and lower prices.
February is when Chinese New Year is celebrated, starting on January 29 running into February 3 in 2025. In 2026, Chinese New Year is celebrated February 17 to 23. While you might see some decorations and celebrations throughout Singapore, it's also a national holiday so some smaller restaurants or shops might be shut. Most large museums and tourist attractions remain open, as Singapore has a heavy focus on tourism.
What to Wear in February
Due to Singapore's high temperatures, we recommend wearing light-colored clothing, and airy natural fabrics like linen or cotton. Dresses, shorts, t-shirts, and short-sleeved tops are all a good idea to pack. We also suggest bringing and wearing sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat, as well as an umbrella just in case it rains while you are there.
