Philippines Weather in August 2025: Travel Tips for First-Timers

August is the wettest month of the year in the Philippines, with an average of around 150 mm (6 inches) of rainfall. That being said, there are relatively drier spots you can base your travels out of, if you do wish to travel to these Pearls of the Orient during August.

Destinations like Luzon and Boracay, however, see the brunt of the rains and are best avoided, while destinations like Cebu and Bohol, although a little wet, remain travel friendly. Average temperatures in the country during August range from highs of around 31°C (88°F) to lows of about 24°C (75°F).

Most travelers don't prefer spending too much time in the Philippines during August. This low season in tourism means you can spend your vacation without having to worry about wading through large groups of tourists at your favorite tourist attractions and beaches. It also means you're very likely to get good deals on accommodation, airfare, transportation, and entertainment in August.

Although there may be a few sunny days in August, it'll be mostly rainy and cloudy.

This, along with the resultant rise in humidity, means you should pack the following items for your trip to the Philippines during this month: umbrella, raincoat, poncho, lighter colored linen or cotton tops and shorts, quick drying pants, sturdy sandals, waterproof shoes, reef shoes, swimwear, sunglasses, sunscreen, mosquito repellent, and a few scarves for church and temple visits.

To better understand what the Philippines is like when it comes to climate and weather conditions during the month of August, continue reading below.

The Philippines Weather in August: Overview

  • Average temperature range: 24°C (75°F) – 31°C (88°F)
  • Rainfall: 115 mm (4.5 inches) in Manila; 110 mm (4.5 inches) in Palawan; 60 mm (2.5 inches) in Cebu; 480 mm (19 inches) in Boracay.
  • Rainy days: 14 in Manila; 14 in Cebu; 21in Palawan; 21 in Boracay.

Some areas in the Philippines are wetter than others during August, as is shown in the table below. Do bear in mind, though, that the typhoon season is from June to September in the Philippines and August sees major storms develop quickly around the islands of the Philippines, making this time especially unpredictable and destructive. While travel plans to the Philippines need not be off the cards during August, we certainly do recommend checking weather reports and forecasts of where you are and where you're headed frequently during this time.

Average temperatures also vary from area to area during August in the Philippines. Average maximum daytime temperatures hover around the 30°C (86°F) mark in Manila, 29°C (85°F) in Palawan, 30°C (86°F) in Cebu, and 31°C (88°F) in Boracay. Average minimum nighttime temperatures hover around the 25°C (77°F) in Manila, 26°C (79°F) in Palawan, 25°C (77°F) in Cebu, and 25°C (77°F) in Boracay.

While it's not the best month to visit the country, August isn't a bad time to visit the Philippines during either. If you plan your itinerary well to maximize time in the drier parts of the country like Cebu and Bohol, you could carve out a relaxing, quiet, beach holiday for yourself and your travel buddies! It's also a good time to be in the country if you're into whitewater rafting or surfing.

Best Places to Visit in the Philippines in August

1.Cebu

Cebu is comparatively dry when compared to most other places in the Philippines during August. It's also a great place to serve as base if you're interested in diving, snorkeling, or island hopping. Although some of these activities may not be possible if it's raining particularly badly on a given day, Cebu offers visitors a range of activities and great beaches to choose from, so you always have something to do.

If you're looking to go on tours that offer the chance to swim with Whale Sharks, just remember to understand exactly what you're getting into. There have been many reports of these Whale Sharks being overfed by people. This ensures they don't migrate or leave the area, which is part of their natural behavior, and very harmful to the species' long-term survival prospects.

2.Bohol

Bohol is another top-rated destination that remains largely sheltered from the worst of the August rains. When here, make sure you visit the famous Chocolate Hills. These hills were formed thousands of years ago from dead corals and assume the color of chocolate during the drier months of the year. This is a fantastic area to hike in. If you're not into hiking, no worries, because Bohol is also home to some great beaches where you can get your tan on and a few dips in!

August Crowds and Costs

If you're looking to snag good deals on accommodation, transportation, and entertainment, August is a very good time to visit the Philippines since most travelers don't prefer traveling during this rainy period of the year.

This low season in tourism also means you're far less likely to run into many tourists when sunbathing at the beach or visiting the tourist attractions on your travel shortlist!

August Events in the Philippines

Kadayawan Festival: On the southern tip of the Philippines, in the city of Davao, Kadayawan – more affectionately known as "the King of Festivals" – is celebrated during the third week of August. During this special festival, Davao residents and the indigenous people of the area come together to worship the deity Manama for a bountiful harvest and a prosperous upcoming year. You will also be greeted to parades and street performances taking place in different parts of Davao, bringing together the city's local communities during this joyous time.

What to Wear in the Philippines in August

While there may be the occasional sunny day in August, it will be mostly rainy and cloudy. This means you should always have an umbrella or raincoat with you. It's also a good idea to pack a poncho that'll prove useful in keeping your backpack dry.

As the wettest month of the year, it also gets quite humid in August in the Philippines. As such, it's recommended you bring with you plenty of clothes made of light fabrics like linen and cotton. Lighter colored clothes made of these fabrics will help you stay comfortable and cool, especially during the hot and sticky afternoon hours.

A full list for a trip to the Philippines during this month ought to include plenty of linen or cotton tops and shorts, quick drying pants, waterproof shoes, sturdy sandals, reef shoes, swimwear, a few evening dresses, sunglasses, sunscreen, mosquito repellent, poncho, umbrella, a light but trusted raincoat, and a few scarves to cover your shoulders and legs for when you visit churches and temples.
