Singapore in December 2025: Weather and Travel

Written by Margaux Updated Jul. 29, 2024

Singapore's weather is hot and humid in December, with extremely high rainfall. During this time, we recommend visiting the Peranakan Museum, the Raffles Hotel, Chinatown and Orchard Road. Keep reading to learn more about travel and weather, including temperatures, rainfall, humidity, and tips for December.

Singapore Weather in December: Overview

Averages:

  • Temperature range: 24–31°C (75–88°F)
  • Daily high feels like: 45°C (113°F)
  • Rainfall: 33 cm (13 inches)
  • Rainy days: 19
  • Sunshine hours/day: 4
  • Humidity: around 86% (very humid in Singapore)

Singapore's weather in December is hot and sticky (except after rainfall), with high temperatures every day. The day's high temperature is around 31°C (88°F) but due to humidity levels this feels more like 45°C (113°F).

December (Singapore's wettest month) falls in Singapore's monsoon period, with around 19 rainy days and 33 cm (13 inches) of rainfall. This is why humidity levels are around 86% throughout the country, and we highly recommend planning some indoor activities and bringing an umbrella.

The Best Places to Visit in Singapore in December

December is hot and often rainy in Singapore, as it falls inside Singapore's rainy monsoon season. However, this does not put visitors off, because there are still plenty of moments of sunshine and clear skies, and the weather is still hot.

Singapore also has a lot of indoor activities, with museums, such as the Peranakan Museum and the Asian Civilisations Museum, giving amazing insights into Singapore's history and relationship to the rest of Asia. Other suggested activities include visiting the Raffles Hotel, walking around Chinatown, and going shopping on Orchard Road.

1. Learn about Peranakan Culture at Singapore's Peranakan Museum

If you are in Singapore and it's rainy, there are plenty of museums to seek cover in. We recommend visiting the Peranakan Museum, a museum focusing on the Peranakan Chinese, an ethnic group of mixed Chinese and Malay/Indonesian heritage in Singapore, dating back to the 15th century. Originally, the Peranakan were the children of Chinese traders who had married local women in either Malaysia or Indonesia, and relocated to Singapore.

The museum combines objects and exhibits with temporary and permanent displays, exploring identity, history, culture, art, and more.

Following your visit to the Peranakan Museum, we suggest checking out the National Museum of Singapore, which you can read more about in our piece about visiting Singapore in February, the Asian Civilisations Museum which you can read more about in our article about visiting Singapore in June, or the National Gallery for those more interested in art, which you can read more about in our suggestions for visiting Singapore in November.

Another great indoor option for visitors interested in culture, music, theater and art is to visit the beautiful Esplanade for a show or concert, which you can read more about here.

2. Relax and Enjoy a Singapore Sling at The Raffles Hotel

Everybody needs to relax and sit down a little at some point in their travels in order to rest their feet, and the Raffles Hotel is the perfect place to do this. The hotel is one of the most expensive and luxurious in Singapore, as well as one of the older ones.

The original portion of the building was built in the 1830s, as a private house, and was transformed into a luxury hotel in the 1880s. During the Second World War it was briefly occupied by the Japanese, but was claimed back by the British in 1945, when Singapore was a British colony. Today, celebrities will often choose to stay there, and one look at the building will give you an understanding as to why.

The hotel's Long Bar is the famous bar where the Singapore Sling, Singapore's national cocktail, was invented. It is made with gin, cherry brandy, benedictine, bitters, pineapple juice, and some lime juice, and is absolutely delicious.

Even if you don't drink alcohol, the Raffles Hotel is a wonderful hotel to roam around in and stop off for a drink or a bite to eat, and learn a little more about Singapore's colonial history. You can also pick up some souvenirs at the unique gift shop.

3. See Chinatown's Temples and Street Art

Chinatown is an ethnic enclave that is home to Chinese temples, food, landmarks, and lots of shops. We suggest visiting Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, as well as Thian Hock Keng Temple to start off with, and also heading over to the Hindu Sri Mariamman Temple, which is one of the oldest Hindu temples in Singapore.

Then, head over to Chinatown Street Market, where you can shop for souvenirs, trinkets, antiques, and other gifts to take home to friends and family. The shops also sell traditional Chinese clothes. There is also a fun art trail that you can take through Chinatown, past Yip Yew Chong's murals. They are beautiful and colorful, depicting a story of Singapore's past and growing up in Chinatown.

For lunch or dinner, we suggest the nearby Maxwell Food Center for a taste of some of Singapore's best dishes. You can find out a little more about what specifically to eat there in our article about visiting Singapore in February.

4. Shop till You Drop on Orchard Road

Singapore's Orchard Road is an incredible shopping street that has pretty much everything you could wish for. From high-end luxury stores, big international brands, and smaller local stores, there is something different for every kind of shopper. One thing is for sure however: you could shop on Orchard Road all day long, hopping from mall to mall.

One of the great things about Orchard Road is that so many of the shopping malls are connected by underground passages, perfect for rainy days. We suggest checking out ION Orchard, one of the newer malls that you can reach via Orchard MRT Station, and heading to Wisma Atria or Ngee Ann City, home to Japanese department store Takashimaya and well-known bookstore Kinokuniya.

If you're looking for some souvenirs, antiques, or art, we suggest Tanglin Shopping Center, which also has some food stalls in the basement, or Far East Shopping Center for fabrics and tailors. Higher end brands are found in Paragon, ION Orchard, or Mandarin Gallery.

Low Season (Except New Year's Eve): Less Expensive and Fewer Crowds

December is generally low travel season in Singapore, although New Year's Eve is an exception with visitors coming to see the fireworks and ringing in the new year in Singapore during winter holidays (or summer holidays in the southern hemisphere). Singapore is a popular travel destination all year round, so we do recommend booking ahead regardless.

What to Wear in December

December is hot and can be rainy, and we definitely recommend bringing either a thin rain poncho, or a good umbrella. Due to higher temperatures, we don't recommend a thick raincoat, which can feel like a little too much as the rain does not decrease temperatures.

With regards to clothing, loose-fitting clothing made of natural materials is generally more comfortable to keep you from getting too hot. We suggest packing summer dresses, short-sleeved t-shirts and shirts, and shorts as well as skirts. Bringing an extra pair of shoes or waterproof shoes is not a bad idea, just in case you get caught in a bit of rain or a torrential downpour!
